The new pedestrian bridge frames the existing West End bridge and enhances the city acces celebrating the severe lines of the bridge arch.
The new structure supportes a double pedestrian crossing offering a wide and easy acces to the bridge, the shores, the riverfront trail network and the water.
The acces to the pedestrian crossing, on both sides, works as «piazza» wheare people people will stay and meet easily.
The high beams mark the acces without rising up the summit of the bridge arch.
Waving flags, on east and west side, will be a double landmark: a visible gateway to the city from Ohio river and a new urban area from downtown.
On the south river bank a floating path is linked with the pedestrian crossing by hight adjustable gangway according the river level and several water landing will be set on the south shoreline.
The present proposal is having no impact on existing structure. The new foundation approached to the old ones don’t interfere with existing piers. The statics of the new structure is indipendent of the old one.
